Clearing Humphreys

Let's just say that Humphrey's is helping you out a little more than Suwon. Their clearing papers include building numbers, phone numbers, and hours of operation. It's not uncommon to finish the installation clearing in half a day.

When you go to your Levy Brief, you will receive better instruction on where to go and what to do. Like I said, they're taking care of soldiers down there.

Good Luck!

Finance Brief

The finance brief is basically where you go to fill out the appropriate forms to stop the benefits of being stationed in Korea (Cola, etc). This brief takes place Monday through Friday @ 1030 in the same place as the Levy Brief. Your best bet is to attend the Finance Brief IMMEDIATELY after the Levy Brief. You can clear that right away and save yourself a serious hassle.

You should have:

PCS Orders
DA 31 (working copy)

**You will be offered a pay advance. If you are planning on taking leave, then driving to your next duty station, it is recommended that you take the pay advance. The interest is almost nonexistent and they prorate it over 12 months. The form will be given to you as well as instructions on filling it out. You have to get the Commander's signature of approval, so if you go ahead with that, be sure to plan that into your clearing schedule.

Clearing Battalion

This will be interesting for you. First off, everyone knows how much Happy Suwon likes to sham, so I sincerely wish you luck in catching people in their offices.

**Go to your battery/ company and clear:
1. Orderly Room [make sure you get copies of your leave form, and any other important documents. Your leave form should be approved at this point so you don't need to use the working copy anymore. Just like when you received your orders, you should head straight to the copier and make about 10 copies. You'll need them when you get to your gaining unit]
2. Motor pool [The master driver for your unit will give you your license information and remove you from the system. Then you have to have the motor sergeant sign your clearing papers.]
3. Training Room [Again, you'll want to make sure you obtain copies of all your certificates and qualifications. This will make the transition easier for your next unit]
4. NBC [You'll need to turn in your NBC gear. When you do this, watch the soldier in charge and make sure they either give you your hand receipt or have them shred it in front of you.]
5. Supply [You need to, again, be sure to return your PT Belt or PT vest, and shred or receive your hand receipt. Your personnel file should be moved to the 'Inactive' portion of files]

**This all has to be done to make the process go smoother. Afterwards, you can head to battalion and clear the majority of the S-shops.

At Battalion:
S-1 [This shop is cleared last. After you clear everything in Humphreys, and everything in Suwon (Osan for Charlie and Delta batteries) You will clear S-1]
S-2 [After clearing your unit, your best bet is to clear S-2. They will give you information on your security clearance and you'll sign out. This is probably the easiest S-Shop to clear. Other than Thursday, you can out process after 1300.]
S-4 [In order to clear S-4, your room needs to be clean! Also, CIF should be cleared. They will come look at your room and clear you for S-4 and Housing. If you still maintain a room key, you will turn it in at this time.]
S-6 [In order to clear S-6, you need to clear Mr. Kim (Kim's Komputer) and the LG Services at the snack bar. (Even if you don't have a phone through LG Services, you need to clear them.)  Then you can go to S-6 and clear this section]

** Also make sure you clear the Shoppette, Post Office, and Library and take care of any outstanding charges, before going to S-1.

Clearing CIF

CIF: You should go onto your AKO and print copies of your clothing record. (To do that, sign into your AKO-> Self Service-> My Clothing-> Scroll Down-> Click on 'PRINT UNSIGNED CLOTHING RECORD. OR You can go to your supply room. They should have maintained a copy of your clothing record in your soldier issue file.) Below are  pictures of the CIF items, (as of 5APR2010- REMEMBER THAT NSN'S OFTEN CHANGE, BUT ITEM NOMENCLATURE IS LESS LIKELY TO CHANGE AS OFTEN, EVEN IF THE LAST 4 OF THE NSN IS DIFFERENT, THE NOMENCLATURE AND PICTURE CAN STILL BE HELPFUL) Before going to CIF to turn in your equipment, you should seperate what you PCS with and what you have to turn in. If you look at your clothing record, on the top , far right hand side, there is a column labeled PCS TRANS. As you look down the list of items on your clothing record, you will see either the letter Y or N. Y means that you take it with you to your next duty station. N means that you turn it in to CIF. ( I would suggest going through the list before you pile all of your stuff onto the floor. HiLite the items you are going to take with you, and turn the rest in.)

*** Remember that the different sizes of items results in a different 'partial NSN' the pictures are here to help identify items, based on my personal clothing record.

******* Basically, what you will turn in for the general PCS is your complete MOLLE II Pack (ruck sack) and your IBA/LBV. You DO keep all the pouches that attach to your IBA and your ACH (Kevlar), and your fleece.

Household Goods

* Household Goods: After getting your ticket, go out the door of the transportation office and turn left. Go past the stairs and on your right there will be another office. This is where you will set up your household goods. They will have you fill out a paper then set up an appointment. You need to have 3 copies of your orders for this section of clearing. They will give you a worksheet for itemizing posessions. You should have this completed before returning to Household Goods for your appointment.

Levy Brief

* Levy Brief: The Levy Brief is where you go to get installation clearing papers.
The briefing is Mon-Fri on the third floor of the OneStop (go in the front door of the OneStop buliding. Turn right, go up the staircase to the third floor. Turn right, and follow the hall all the way to the end. There will be a briefing room right in front of you). It starts at 1000 hours. You must be in ACU's in order to attend this briefing.

In order to attend this brief, here is what you need need to know:

         1. You must be no more than TEN WORKING DAYS OUT!                  - They will NOT allow you to attend the brief any sooner than that.
         2. You Must have the following
                 a. DA 31 (working copy- doesn't need to be approved, with multiple copies in hand)
                 b. DA 137-1 (UNIT clearing papers. You go to S-1 to obtain these.)
                 c. PCS Orders (Multiple Copies)
                 d. Flight Itinerary (either your actual ticket, or the print out from when you got your flight)

* IF YOU DON'T HAVE EVEN ONE OF THESE FORMS, YOU CANNOT ATTEND THE BRIEFING

Leave

* Leave: After getting your ticket, you should go straight to your orderly room and get a request for leave/ pass form. You need to have your ERB, LES, Itinerary, and a copy of your PCS Orders to get the leave form completed properly and quickly. After you submit your leave form for approval, your first step should be to make copies of your working (unsigned) DA 31. You'll make copies of your SIGNED DA 31 after it is approved, but it's best to keep this record anyway. YOU SHOULD SUBMIT YOUR LEAVE FORM AS SOON AS YOU HAVE A FLIGHT.

Orders/ Getting Your Plane Ticket

* You should see projection orders on your ERB before ever recieving a hard copy of them. My suggestion is that you start 'poking' around the website for your new duty station. It makes the transition easier if you know a little bit about your new assignment before touching ground.

* In order to obtain your ticket you need to have at least 4 copies of your orders. When you recieve your PCS orders, you should find the nearest copy machine and commense with the copying. Make about twenty and that should get you through the clearing process.

* Ticket: When you go to get your ticket, go to the OneStop building, behind the medical/ dental center in Camp Humphreys. Go to the second floor and turn right. There will be a transportation section. There you sign in and wait to be called. The person there will take 4 copies of your orders and ask you a couple questions, but reserve your flight that day. You won't be able to pick up your ticket that day, but they will print out a copy of your itinerary and write a date on it when you can pick up your ticket. You should go get your ticket AS SOON AS YOU RECIEVE ORDERS.
